What is UDC (Union Digital Center) and why?
Union Digital Center (UDC) is a state-of-the-art Information and Knowledge Center (Telecentre) established in the Union Parishad with the objective of ensuring information services at the doorsteps of grassroots people. From this center, the people of rural towns can easily get life and livelihood related information and necessary services in a familiar environment near their homes. On November 11, 2010 the Hon'ble Prime Minister from her office and the Administrator of United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and former Prime Minister of New Zealand Miss Helen Clark from Charkukrimukri Union of Bhola District through video conference Union Digital Center (UDC) located in all Union Parishads across the country simultaneously.inaugurated. About 40 lakh people are receiving information and services from these centers every month. Through the Union Digital Center, access to government and private services at an easy, fast and low cost has started to bring a huge positive change in the quality of life of the local people.The journey of Union Digital Center started with the slogan of 'Service at Doorsteps'. The establishment of Union Digital Center has made it possible to create a free flow of information in every sphere of society and state system, where people no longer have to go from door to door for services, but the services themselves. Ingredients:
A Union Digital Center consists of multiple computers and related equipment, which has been and is being installed in phases to ensure improved information services for the common people of the area. A UDC can be initially started with a camera. However, the following documents are required for conducting a full-fledged UDC –

1 photocopy machine
1 digital camera
1 webcam
A Union Digital Center may have a higher or lower overhead based on local demand.
Union Digital Center is established based on PPPP (Public-Private-People's Partnership) model. Each UDC has two local youth entrepreneurs, one male and one female. These entrepreneurs manage the UDC. Some centers have one female and one male entrepreneur
Besides, one more woman and one man are working as 'alternative entrepreneurs'. The entrepreneur is not a paid employee of the UDC, the income of each UDC is the income of the entrepreneur. In UDC the entrepreneur is also an investor.
Partnership:
The Union Digital Center is being run under the leadership of the Local Government Department. Under the direction of the cabinet department and under the management of the local administration, other activities are carried out under the supervision of the UDC. LGD and Bangladesh Computers provide funding for UDC's required ICT equipment and training for entrepreneurs
Electricity has been arranged. Apart from this, several banks-insurance, mobile companies, NGOs, educational-research institutes, hardware-software associations etc. are getting involved with UDC with their services, new skills and technical support.
From Council (BCC). BCC also provided solar panels to 1013 un-electrified unions. Also, Bangladesh Climate Change Trust and Prime Minister's Office's A2I (Access to Information) program has provided solar panels to all Union Digital Centers across the country to provide uninterrupted service to all UDCs in the country.
Digital Center Management System:
An online software called UDC Activities Management or 'Digital Center Management System' //uddokta.eksheba.gov.bd/ has been developed to assist UDC entrepreneurs in accounting of income and follow-up of local administration. Group Digital Center, Bangladesh
Digital Center, Bangladesh Group is a powerful online platform for 9,002 entrepreneurs from 4,501 UDCs spread across the country to facilitate interaction, networking and quick communication between entrepreneurs and local administration officials. Entrepreneurs
They have the opportunity to exchange experiences among themselves, identify problems and find their solutions, take joint initiatives, work shoulder to shoulder with the local administration, and even discuss with policy makers if necessary.
